Dr Alan Burton-Jones
Formerly a director of leading multinational British Oxygen's computer
services business, Alan Burton-Jones now heads an international
management consultancy practice headquartered in Australia. His
doctoral research explored the relationships between firms' human
sourcing strategies, their HR management practices and organizational
effectiveness, providing significant new evidence of causal effects.
He specializes in the field of intellectual resource management
with a particular focus on the links between strategy, people and
performance.
Alan has consulted
to major organisations in both public and private sectors in Asia,
Australia, the UK and USA on strategies for improving human sourcing,
workforce flexibility, workforce diversity, top team effectiveness
and knowledge management. He
contributed to the development of the report on the knowledge-based
economy in APEC countries (DISR 2000) and the first national KM
Framework published by Standards Australia.
He is a frequent
speaker on the international conference circuit and regularly conducts
seminars and workshops in Australia, Asia and UK on human sourcing
strategies and the management of intellectual resources. He
has taught at the Brisbane Graduate School of Business (Queensland
University of Technology) and is currently an adjunct faculty member
of the Australian Graduate School of Management
Alan has contributed
articles to a number of leading journals. His book: Knowledge
Capitalism: Business, Work and Learning in the New Economy (Oxford
University Press, 1999, 2001, 2005) has been described by reviewers
as a comprehensive analysis of the changing role of knowledge in
the economy and its impact on individuals, organisations, and the
future of work. The Japanese translation (Nikkei 2002) was a business
best seller. He is currently coediting the
Oxford Handbook of Human Capital, (Oxford University Press,
forthcoming) with JC Spender.
